Heleen´s biography.
Heleen met yoga, and yoga met Heleen in Byron Bay, while she was travelling Australia in 2000. With her trip, she took a break from 24/7 advertising life and with yoga, she plunged into something new that would stay with her the following years. She loved it from day 1 - although she will tell you she was crap at it in the beginning! And that combination was an entire new experience in itself.
Back in Amsterdam, Heleen followed classes, and later on the teacher training, with Gösta and Patrick.
Yoga became fun, light and at the same time challenging, at times even tough.
For Heleen, yoga and real life are very much connected. Both can throw obstacles your way, obstacles you can overcome if you “simply“ keep on breathing calmly. Yoga can make you feel better, both mentally and physically. And developing your skills can go on endlessly, at ever more subtle levels. It´s an ongoing journey. An unexpected leap forward if you think you are stuck in your practise, maybe five steps back if you thought you were just about there: never a dull moment.
While Heleen travelled to the other side of the world to first get in touch with yoga, she is now a teacher at Svaha Yoga, literally around the corner from her house.
A long and fruitful journey, ending up next door. Her biggest joy is if she sees people leaving after class, lighter and more open than they were when they came in. As if they created some space for their true selves to emerge, in the midst of buzzing city life.
