Pieter Kool (1978)
Pieter is an Industrial Designer and has an interest in design, creativity and traveling. Throughout his youth he’s been involved in high level competitive sports like water polo, snowboarding and baseball. He was member of national baseball youth teams and played for a university in the USA. Pieter feels his athletic background is very influential, also because it took him to every corner of the planet.
On a travel to India Pieter enrolled, more or less by accident, in a Vipassana meditation course. The course turned out to be the best ten days of his journey. “What the Rolling Stones sing about in ‘Satisfaction’ is a truth to me. I guess I realized at an early age that there are plenty of kicks to get outside yourself, but deep satisfaction comes from within. When I started practicing meditation and yoga this source of satisfaction was exactly what I found.”
The quest for a yoga philosophy that incorporates modern city life, instead of rejecting it, brought him to Svahayoga. Svaha, in the NY Jivamukti tradition, addresses the questions of our time with the wisdom of all ages. “It’s probably easier to find peace of mind living in a cave, but what is it worth to me, us, city people? I live my life here and I love it.” Pieter began practicing yoga in 2000 and started the teacher training at Svaha in 2003, which he completed one year later.
“My path of yoga is not about what you do, it’s about your intentions and the love that you put into the things you do.”
His classes involve lots of movement, but the meditation aspect of yoga remains the primary focus. “I really enjoy teaching, and, most important, I
just love doing yoga!”
